FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS AN RDN?
An RDN is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. The RDN designation highlights the fact that all Registered Dietitians are Nutritionists, but not all Nutritionists are Registered Dietitians. This is a very important distinction because in some states you can call yourself a Nutritionist without any formal nutrition education, training, licensing, or certification, but it's illegal to call yourself a "Registered Dietitian" without proper credentialing. The inclusion of the word Nutritionist in the credential communicates a broader concept of wellness, including prevention of health conditions beyond medical nutrition therapy, as well as treatment of existing conditions.
WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER NUTRITIONIST SERVICES?
Typically, Nutritionist services are not covered by health insurance. Medical and Medicare are not accepted. Services are an out-of-pocket expense.
